The Importance of Timing and Weighing your Shots

Making your perfect cup of coffee is not an easy task at all. We have to take care of many things while preparing it. The main fact that should be taken care of is the perfect timing and weighing of your slots.

Why is it so important to take care of the timing and weighing of slots? How it affects the taste of our coffee? Today I am going to discuss this in detail.

Why the timing of slots is Important?

It’s all about the timing. While making your coffee it’s extremely important to take care of the timing. While brewing your coffee it’s really necessary to take care of the timing. Brewing the coffee in less time gives a different taste, on the other hand, brewing in more time gives you a different taste. The taste of the coffee that you’ve brewed entirely affects the taste of your espresso.

Why perfectly weighing your slots is important?

Shot weight is important because, as with drip coffee, the ratio is key. You need the right amount of water to pass through just the right amount of ground coffee. This ensures that the chemical process of coffee and water molecules bonding takes place. For drip coffee, using a 1:16 ratio of coffee to water is pretty standard. Due to espresso’s more concentrated, syrupy nature and the pressure from brewing, 1:2 coffee to water is a good starting point. Using a scale to weigh your shot as it pulls is key here! While you can also use a shot pitcher that measures volume, a scale gives you more freedom. With it, you can brew to exact ratios and try different amounts of coffee and water.
